Contact Lens Manufacturing Methods

If you want to become a contact lens distributor, then we want you to understand the contact lens manufacturing process first. This will positively impact your business, and only a clear understanding of the product-making process will help sales.

Lathe Cutting

The products produced are versatile and can be customized according to different designs. However, the process is more complicated and prone to errors and higher manufacturing costs and is not suitable for the mass production of disposable contact lenses. This method can be used to make both hard and soft contact lenses.

Cast Molding

Cast Molding is the process of designing a mold, injecting liquid material into the mold, then hardening it with high temperature and pressure, followed by demolding, grinding, and polishing, and finally hydrating it into a finished product. It must be produced in large quantities to keep the cost low, and most disposable contact lenses are made by this method.

Spin Casting

Liquid material is injected into the rotating mold, and the centrifugal force, gravity, and surface tension form a smooth film, which is then hydrated into a finished product. It can be produced in large quantities, but it is more difficult to produce lenses with higher complexity.

Contact Lens Manufacturer

The most common method in recent years is injection molding. Nowadays, today’s disposable contact lenses are the mainstream of sales and the market has become stable. In addition to making adjustments in the manufacturing process and sales strategy to cope with the fierce competition, manufacturers need to make the products have a clearer market segmentation, and the future products will develop in the direction of high oxygen permeability and high moisturizing properties, and the key technology lies in the raw material formulation of contact lenses.
